Promoting health research information through HERDIN Database
Last August 29, 2018, members of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) – Cebu Chapter participated in the training on Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN) conducted in Cebu Doctors’ University library. Spearheaded by the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), the training aimed to adopt a research sharer's perspective. Moreover, the workshop was geared to train participants in uploading health research outputs in the HERDIN database.
The HERDIN training officially started with the warm welcoming remarks of Ms. Emeline C. Baco, the Chair of the CVCHRD Committee on Research Information and Utilization. After the introduction and overview of the HERDIN Database, participants from POGS were trained on how to input research articles into the database. A workshop on the encoding of researches in the database then followed. The monitoring and evaluation of HERDIN were also discussed during the training.

HERDIN is a national database that serves as a repository for health researches in the country. With access to more than 50,000 citations and bibliographic information from published and unpublished health researches in the country, the HERDIN database is a valuable tool for students, researchers, grant-giving bodies, and research-generating institutions. The HERDIN Database contains integrated content of health research information including those from biomedical research, epidemiological studies, health services research, and studies of behavioral, social, and economic factors that affect health.
